What is Contouring

The art of real-life photoshop, a.k.a contouring, is a makeup technique that allows you to sculpt and illuminate your face according to the light to really make your beautiful face POP! It’s basically playing with light and shadow using a few basic makeup products and tools to achieve that ‘snatched’ look we all want.

Choosing the Right Shade

When it comes to contouring and highlighting, picking out the right shade for your skin tone is THE most important step. We’ve all heard the term ‘muddy’ when attempting to contour - that is exactly what we want to avoid. 

For contouring, choose a product that is two to three shades darker than your skin tone while keeping its undertone in mind. Use a cool, grayish-brown shade if your skin is cool-toned, and a warm, red-brown shade if your skin is warm-toned.

For highlighting, choose a product that is about two shades lighter than your skin tone.

Note: Always contour post foundation application.
