Skincare Tips for Oily Skin

Just like most things in life, not all skin types are the same - ranging from dry, normal, sensitive, combo, to oily - and each type requires a special way of loving. Today, we’re focusing on oily skin types and busting old myths that are most likely causing harm to your skin. One of our most dreaded? That people with oily skin aren’t supposed to apply moisturizer; SUPER wrong. So, if you’re one of many women who struggle with oily skin, read along. We’re sure you’ll love our tips and tricks!

1- Cleanse twice a day

You might think that washing your face every time you see that extra shine would be good for your oily skin, but that’s where you’re wrong! It’s best to cleanse your face with a suitable face wash for oily skin twice a day - once in the morning, and another right before going to bed. Check this cleanser out, it’s worth the try:

2- Follow-up with alcohol-free toner

To regulate sebum production, make sure to incorporate a good toner into your skincare routine. They are known to not just eliminate excess oil, but also banish dirt and leftover makeup. Opt for toners with rosewater like this one, or any alcohol-free alternatives.

3- Moisturize

We’ve mentioned this earlier, and we’ll do it again: moisturizing is important for every skin type - yes, that includes oily skin. The fact is, stripping the skin of moisturizer will only do the opposite of what you need; it will encourage the sebaceous glands to produce more oil to compensate. Try this moisturizer out and thank us later:

4- Don’t skip SPF

Sunscreen is important, period. Please don’t skip it. Doing so will only result in brown spots, pigmentation, and freckles from sun exposure. Get yourself a lightweight sunscreen to keep your face matte:

5- Exfoliate weekly

Excess sebum (or oil) leads to dead skin build-up, which is why exfoliating once to twice per week is super important for those with oily skin. Scrubbing dead skin cells off will have your face feeling smooth and fresh, as well as looking great. Just make sure to not over-exfoliate, as this will make your skin dry, leading to more sebum production. Check this natural exfoliator out:

6- Oil-free diet

Ever heard the phrase “Your are what you eat.”? Well, it’s true. You can use all the right products in the world to help with oily skin, but if you don’t start from the inside, you won’t get the results you want. To help your skin, eat a diet rich in vegetables, fruits, and lean proteins, and cut back on fried and processed foods as well as sugary beverages.

7- Stay active

Exercising hasn’t brought any negative effects on our bodies so far, and it’s not about to start now. Regular movement increases the blood flow and helps nourish skin cells.

8- Drink lots of water

Drinking 5-6 glasses of water daily helps in flushing toxins out of the body. Trust us, you want that.
